To say the Hotel U Raka is one-of-a-kind would be like saying the sky is blue. It’s obvious.
You don’t even have to step inside. Just take a look.
The hotel looks like a classic cottage out in the Czech countryside. It’s like something you would see in a tiny village. In fact, many Czechs have cottages which are built in the same style (search: roubenka).
For many Czechs these types of buildings are often associated with classic fairy tales, cottage life and a strong connection to nature
and the past.
Fortunately, you don’t have to venture into the Czech countryside to find Hotel U Raka.
Actually it’s a very short walk from Prague Castle - and other sights like Loreta, Strahov Monastery and Petřín park.
If you have any doubts, just read a few reviews on Trip Advisor.
The first time we found the hotel it was something of a shock.
nestled below a massive brick rampart and connects to one of our
favorite streets, Nový Svět.
The hotel sits off to the side of the street and combined with the low houses nearby, they form what seems like a tiny village. The feeling here is so unusual and special that it’s hard to describe fully.
It’s the type of spot that you should visit even if you don’t stay at the hotel. Seriously.
The hotel is completely removed from the bustle of Prague, but still convenient enough. And, there is a tram stop not far from the hotel too that will take you into Old Town and Malá Strana.
For some of you, the location may be a
turn-off. But, we wouldn’t hesitate a second. To find such solitude and
character in one place is remarkable.
Hotel U Raka’s history dates to the 1700’s. But, it has been modernized in recent years. So you get all the charm with Wi Fi, air conditioning and a complete breakfast.
With only 6 rooms, the hotel owners have a chance to cater to guests individually.
So they offer a variety of packages, tours in Prague and outside the city. They will also help you plan your sightseeing so you make the most of your trip.
The hotel does book up fast so advance bookings are recommended.
