Hidden Prague Sights

prague sights

When I say hidden Prague sights, I mean alternative, local sights that often go hidden from tourists.

So, if you're looking for something a little different or sometimes off the beaten path then follow this series of articles.

This week we visit Vojanovy Sady, a hidden garden oasis.

Other hidden sights include:

Wallenstein Garden

Church of Saint Michael

New World Street

Brevnov Abbey

Pisecka Brana

Hunger Wall

Prague Castle's Stag Moat

Vojanovy Sady

I imagine Vojanovy Sady is popular with locals becauseit's such a wonderful oasis right in the middle of everything.prague attractions novy svet

There's no tourist crowds, traffic or anything for that matter. But there are many trees and places to lay in the grass with a book.

In the back of the garden you will find a bubbling fountain and a few peacocks nesting in the vines. There's also an interesting ruin dating from centuries ago. I've yet to figure it out, but I'm guessing it was a chapel.

Video

I recently shot this video while visiting the garden. It turned out to be more about the band that was rehearsing for an upcoming show. Their music fit the summer mood, but I neglected to get their name.

Where Is It?

In the vicinity you will find many more Prague attractions including Prague Castle and Wallenstein Garden.

You can take either the tram or metro to Malostranská and walk about 100 metres south to Vojanovy Sady.

This Google map is a bit more specific.

When to Visit?

Spring is probably the best time to visit because of the blossoming trees and flowers but summer is perfect for relaxing.

There's one downside to many of the gardens in Prague. Vojanovy Sady and others are only open April-October. I guess the weather and foot traffic isn't a good combination for the city's gardens. Parks however are open year round.

But, don't let that change your travel plans. Prague is definitely cheaper in the winter or 'low season'.
