An elegant Prague hotel - now that's a phrase we didn't consider before. But, on a recent tour of central Prague hotels we were impressed by the sheer elegance of many hotels.
Subtle, elegant, boutique hotels in Prague - very refreshing.
This page charts our jaunt through the city and points
our an elegant Prague hotel and a few more.
Obviously, the word elegant is subjective. So, we made a few simple ground rules about each hotel:
This is our mini list of elegance. The first three are in Mala
Strana and the next three are in Old Town. See the map
below for more details.
Located on one of Prague's most famous streets, Nerudova, this elegant
Prague hotel is just steps from the castle's main entrance
and Charles Bridge.
Like many hotels on this list, the Hotel Neruda goes
unnoticed. It's not looking for attention which usually
means something good is hiding inside. And, it is.
The Hotel Neruda strikes a delicate balance of history
and the modern world. The building was founded in 1348 and
the recent long renovation combines its arched ceilings
with glass elements, light and sleek furniture.
The Neruda is named after Prague's legendary writer Jan
Neruda who lived opposite of the hotel. Some rooms have a
special touch with excerpts of his poems stenciled on the
walls. Only an elegant
Prague hotel can pull that off respectively.

Before our visit, we imagined the Augustine as a big
soulless hotel. But, we quickly realized that size doesn't
matter. What counts is the world of rich tones and high
level of hospitality found inside.
The hotel combines all kinds of surprising elements - all of which inspired us. This is what we look for in an elegant Prague hotel - subtle surprise, design and of course comfort.
The Augustine sits
snugly in Mala Strana not far from Prague Castle and
Charles Bridge. It's also just steps from the impressive Wallenstein Garden.

Imagine this... after a day of sightseeing you can come back to the Augustine for a pleasant dinner at their Monastery Restaurant including views over a lovely courtyard. Afterwards, you can head to their spa or pull up a Cubist inspired chair in the hotel's Brewery Bar. The bar is an amazing sight on its own with original stalactites and stalagmites.

The Balthasar is the sister hotel to Domus Henrici (see
above). Their locations and simple elegance make it hard
to not mention both. Plus, we're a little biased. The
staff is just always friendly and inviting.
The Domus Balthasar is
literally steps from Charles Bridge and the bold St.
Nicholas Church. So, you can't get a better location if
you want to be right in the middle of everything.

Each room is plenty comfortable with quality amenities like minibar, fax and DVD players. We particularly appreciate that there is a bathtub and separate shower in each luxury bathroom.

The Buddha-Bar Hotel is
like no other in hotel in Prague. It's an eye-popping
display of Asian design decked in lots of red and gold -
with dragon and buddha motifs to boot. It's theme based -
unlike many other boutique hotels in Prague.
You might be turned off by the heavy thematic elements,
but like many boutique hotels in Prague, this one speaks
volumes with extra amenities and style. We haven't had the
chance to stay here, but the Buddha-Bar is known for its
perfect service and accommodation.

The hotel has 36 rooms and a few select suites. It offers full 5 star services and amenities from, fitness facilities and spa treatments to shoe shine and jacuzzi bathtubs.
Of course, you can walk anywhere you want from the hotel.
Old Town Square, for example, is just around the corner.
And, don't miss the dining experience of the Buddha-Bar
Lounge and Siddharta Cafe in the same location.

The King's Court is more
of a classic luxury Prague hotel. However, it boasts
elegant, modern design in clean comfortable rooms.
The hotel has a variety of rooms from deluxe guestrooms
to larger luxurious suites and one "royal suite." So,
almost all budgets can find something attractive here.
The hotel itself is located right next to Prague's
magnificent Municipal
House (Obecni Dum). You can easily find Wenceslas Square and Old Town Square
in just a few minutes from here.

The King's Court offers more than standard amenities
which makes it perfect for conferences and business travelers
too. There's an on-site fitness center, ballroom,
lobby bar and full restaurant to name a few.

The Hotel Josef is an
upbeat chic boutique hotel. It's located in Old Town, but
doesn't pretend to mirror the old architecture outside.
Inside is all about clean design.
Here you can choose from a huge variety of rooms like
smaller "deluxe" rooms to larger suites - some with large
sitting areas and a balcony.

The hotel prides itself on catering to individual needs
with prompt concierge services to fulfill requests.
They'll even book your restaurant or opera tickets for
you. Just ask.
We loved the top deck with glass windows and view from the fitness room. Of course, the Zen massage room is a very nice touch too.

We like to
think these hotels follow The Oxford Dictionary 's
definition of "elegant":
Our quest for an elegant Prague hotel began in Mala Strana. We started near Prague Castle and followed the blue line shown on this map. Click on each blue marker for name and hotel details.
